Costco Sues US

Costco sued the Trump administration seeking guarantees for tariff refunds if the Supreme Court invalidates tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The company challenges the use of emergency powers to levy tariffs and claims U.S. Customs denied its request for more time to finalize tariff calculations, risking full refund claims. Costco reported $275.2 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue and has adjusted its supply chain to reduce tariff impacts.

Dozens of firms, including Revlon and Kawasaki, filed similar suits. The Supreme Court heard arguments in November and is considering the legality of the tariff policy, which could affect billions in refunds nationwide.

If the Supreme Court rules the tariffs unlawful, should companies automatically get refunds for tariffs already paid?

A Tale of Two Economies

US manufacturing contracted for the ninth consecutive month in November, with the ISM index dropping to 48.2. New orders fell to 47.4, and factory employment shrank for the tenth month. Prices paid by manufacturers rose slightly, while supplier deliveries improved, signaling eased supply chain pressures.

Exports rose modestly, but unfilled orders declined. Economists had expected a PMI rebound, but the decline reflects ongoing tariff impacts and weak demand. The Federal Reserve’s Beige Book confirms consumer spending declined further by mid-November.

Meanwhile, Cyber Monday online spending is forecast to grow 6.3% to $14.2 billion, driven by electronics, apparel, and furniture sales. AI tools boosted traffic to retail sites by 670%, supporting strong online consumer spending despite broader economic challenges.

Do you think the Federal Reserve’s Beige Book report on declining consumer spending signals a looming recession?

The headlines are lying to you.

They say the new OBBBA tax bill is just a "save as" of the old rules. They claim stability.

They’re wrong.

While the tax brackets stayed the same, the machinery behind them completely shifted. We analyzed the statutory text and found 7 invisible traps that target high earners and business owners.

  • The new $40,000 SALT cap isn't a gift. It’s a mathematical trap that creates a hidden 60% tax rate for the mass affluent.

  • Marriage is now a massive financial liability for dual-income professionals.

  • For the first time, the tax code structurally punishes you for donating to charity while you're alive.

The game isn't about deductions anymore. It’s about AGI management.

If you don't adjust your strategy now, you will overpay significantly.

Travelers Without REAL ID Beware

Starting February 1, 2026, U.S. air travelers aged 18 and older without a REAL ID or TSA-approved ID must pay a $45 fee to use TSA’s “Confirm ID” system for identity verification.

This fee covers a 10-day period and can be paid online or at the airport, though paying does not guarantee boarding. REAL ID-compliant IDs display a white star in a yellow circle. Other accepted IDs include passports, military IDs, permanent resident cards, tribal IDs, and select federal cards.

About 94% of travelers already comply with ID requirements. The fee rose from an initial $18 to $45 to cover administrative costs of the verification process.

Should travelers who don’t have a REAL ID be required to pay a $45 fee for identity verification?

CEO Killer Luigi Mangione

Luigi Mangione, 27, is charged with the December 2024 murder of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan investors' conference.

Mangione denies the charges and faces state and federal murder counts, with federal prosecutors considering the death penalty. His defense seeks to exclude evidence found without a warrant, including a 9mm gun and a notebook referencing a "health insurance cartel," and challenges statements made before Miranda rights were read.

Mangione was captured after a five-day manhunt in Pennsylvania. Terrorism charges were dismissed in September 2025. Prosecutors hold DNA, fingerprints, and CCTV evidence. Security at Mangione’s detention site is heightened. Trial date is unconfirmed.

Should evidence obtained without a warrant ever be allowed in court if it is crucial to the case?

Fat-Derived Stem Cells Heal Spinal Fractures

Researchers used fat-derived adipose stem cells (ADSCs) formed into bone-differentiated 3D spheroids combined with β-tricalcium phosphate to heal spinal fractures in rats.

These fractures mimic human osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. ADSCs are easy to harvest, even from older adults, and carry low donor risk. Treatment increased genes linked to bone growth and improved bone strength and healing. This suggests ADSC spheroids enhance natural bone repair.

The approach offers a potentially less invasive, faster therapy for spinal fractures caused by osteoporosis, which affects over 15 million in Japan’s aging population. The study was led by Yuta Sawada and Dr. Shinji Takahashi at Osaka Metropolitan University.

Do you think the success in rats using ADSCs strongly indicates similar effectiveness in humans?

Targeted Heart Patches

Three new heart patches, unveiled in 2025, target heart attack recovery. Texas A&M's biodegradable microneedle patch delivers IL-4 to shift macrophages from inflammation to repair, reducing scarring but currently requires open-chest surgery.

MIT's programmable drug-delivery patch releases three therapies over two weeks, halving damaged heart tissue and boosting survival in rats; it dissolves within a year and aims for less invasive delivery.

Mayo Clinic's flexible, cell-loaded patch attaches via surgical adhesive through a small incision, promoting tissue regeneration, blood vessel growth, and reduced scarring, targeting fragile patients and transplant reduction. All three patches currently need surgical implantation but plan to develop minimally invasive methods.

How confident are you that these new heart patches will significantly improve patient survival compared to current treatments?
